Dr Catherine Fava

Chartered Clinical Psychologist

Catherine is a highly experienced Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years experience in the NHS and private sector. Catherine is passionate about delivering an accessible and successful service to clients, offering to each individual and family a bespoke assessment and treatment, depending on their needs.

Catherine herself has a diagnosis of autism, which provides a unique insight helping her to build connections with others with neurodiversity. 
  
Catherine, originally from Coventry, now operates from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire and works with adults, children and families from Hertfordshire as well as surrounding counties, including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

Catherine has worked across a variety of settings including working with adults, children, older people and in forensic settings. She currently works in a NHS service that supports children who are in care, offering carer support and trauma focused interventions. Before this, Catherine spent 8 years working in NHS services supporting adults and children with a diagnosis of autism and/ or a learning disability. 

Catherine has extensive training and experience of offering different therapies, including; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Systemic/ Family Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mentalization- Based Therapies (MBT), Behavioural therapy, and Narrative Therapy. Catherine has many years experience adapting these approaches to meet the needs of those with Neurodiversity.

Catherine is also trained in delivery of the 'Gold Standard' package of assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder, and is a trained sleep counsellor for children with additional needs. 

Catherine appreciates how difficult it can be to talk to and trust a professional with difficult thoughts and feelings. Catherine has a lived experience of mental health difficulties as well as accessing personal therapy. She understands that the key to any successful therapy is therapeutic rapport, and gets that trust and connection is central to this.   

Catherine has also done a lot of work assessing NHS services and providing feedback to teams about areas of improvement. This stemmed from a personal value of ensuring that all health services are best meeting a client's needs. 

Catherine is a parent to 2 young boys, who keep her very busy, and in any spare time she enjoys being outdoors and walking. 

Catherine is registered with The British Psychological Society (BPS), The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist, The Information Commissioners Office (ICO) and has an advanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Catherine is registered with all major health insurance companies, including; BUPA, AVIVA, AXA and Cigna.
